The new course starts next Monday, October 1st!

We welcome all you to the new course of the MSc in Bioinformatics at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. As you know, the course starts next Monday, October 1st, at 9:30h in the C5/058 classroom of the Facultat de Biociències. Let me remind you that in the students master web page you will find the complete schedule of the course, as well as a map of the faculty with the exact location of your classroom. You can incorporate it in your personal Google calendar to be aware of the latest changes by clicking in this icon  + Google calendar of this  link.

You will have complete access to the student Web page using your NIU (Student Identification Number).

In order to bring you to the classroom the first day, I invite you to meet Antonio Barbadilla and Raquel Egea at 09:10h at the main entrance of the Facultat de Biociències (central axis), right next to the concierge (main entrance). They will guide you to the classroom and will present several important aspects about the master before the class begins. If you have any problems/suggestions/questions, do not hesitate to contact me (the first days and also during the rest of the course).

Regarding the classroom, it is a bioinformatics lab with one computer per student and it is devoted exclusively for students of this master during the first semester. You will have open access to it during the first semester, even if there are no programmed classes. In the following links you have the UAB normative of these spaces (in Spanish and English) and you should sign the last sheet for accepting the regulations and deliver it to us the first day.

We wish that this master fills completely your expectations and it becomes the decisive boost for your professional success.

Kind regards,

Raquel Egea

Scientists develop methods to validate gene regulation networks A team of biologists and computer scientists has mapped out a network of interactions for how plant genes coordinate their response to nitrogen, a crucial nutrient and the main component of fertilizer.

New Metascape platform enables biologists to unlock big-data insights
Scientists have revealed an open-access, web-based portal that integrates more than 40 advanced bioinformatics data sources to allow non-technical users to generate insights in one click. Called Metascape, this tool removes data analysis barriers -- allowing researchers to spend more time on important biological questions and less time building and [+]

New computational tool harnesses big data, deep learning to reveal dark matter of the transcriptome
A research team has developed an innovative computational tool offering researchers an efficient method for detecting the different ways RNA is pieced together (spliced) when copied from DNA. Because variations in how RNA is spliced play crucial roles in many diseases, this new analytical tool will provide greater capabilities for discovering disea [+]

New computational tool could change how we study pathogens A sophisticated new analysis too incorporating advanced mathematical strategies could help revolutionize the way researchers investigate the spread and distribution of dangerous, fast-evolving disease vectors.
